2011 Olympia Preview

We break from your regularly scheduled blog reading for the following announcement.

For those of you that have been around here for awhile will know, I love bodybuilding. When I was a young lad I had aspirations of becoming a competitive bodybuilder.

That dream died long ago (I killed it just to watch it die). My love for the “sport” never left me though.

Sure, the professional mass monster is all hopped up on gear, but you don’t get muscle mass like that from just taking a shot. That requires a lot of hard work as well.

Since we began PhitZone, I’ve tried to cover the Mr. Olympia weekend . Yes, it’s that time once again.

One day I plan on covering the Olympia by actually being in Vegas for the show. Since my schedule (and finances) haven’t allowed that to happen, I watch as much as I can via webcast, and report it back to you.

Consider this your warning – In addition to our normal fun and informative articles, beginning Thursday, we’re going to be neck deep in Olympia action, or at least as much as I can stand.

The Oly weekend has grown to include a variety of events, similar to the Arnold Sports Festival which includes everything from table tennis to grappling and bodybuilding.

In the case of the Oly, we have:

kickboxing/MMA
grappling
strongman challenge
athlete challenge
powerlifting
Men’s 202 Showdown
and of course the Mr. Olympia
Oh, and we can’t forget about the Expo.

Our primary focus will be on the Mr. Olympia and 202 Showdown. However, I’ll touch on the other events as much as I can.
